One of Lenovo’s environmental management objectives is to minimize waste generation and maximize waste recycling and reuse. Lenovo has been tracking and evaluating both nonhazardous and hazardous waste generated in its manufacturing, research
and development sites and some large office locations since 2006. FY 2011/12 through FY 2016/17 data were verified by Bureau Veritas, a third party. The latest verification is available here:

Nonhazardous Waste Disposition by Disposal Method
Nonhazardous waste generation increased due to structural changes in terms of acquiring and integrating other businesses. In FY 2016/17 Lenovo's nonhazardous solid waste recycling rate was 87.5%, which was in a range of operational maintenance
of a 90% recycling rate (+/-5%). Our global waste intensity as total nonhazardous waste generated per unit of produced during the fiscal year decreased.
After several years of improvements in recycling rate and waste intensity metrics, continued reductions are very challenging. While Lenovo will continue to identify and implement actions to improve our waste management performance, during the
coming year Lenovo has set targets which establish an acceptable control limit based upon the previous year’s performance.
Lenovo does not have wet processes in its manufacturing or research and development operations, so relatively small quantities of water are used. All water use at Lenovo is related to human consumption and sanitation. For that reason Lenovo does
not set internal global water reduction targets; however, some of our facilities have established water-related goals and we set operational control water targets for global water use and global wastewater generation. Lenovo has tracked, monitored,

Water consumption and wastewater discharge increased in FY 2016/17 due to including acquired businesses in our water inventory.
Lenovo withdraws water only from municipal sources and only for human support; therefore, we have minimal impact on local water resources and minimal opportunities to reuse water. However, several of our sites installed water efficient fixtures
in restrooms, purchased water efficiency equipment for cafeterias, minimized the need for irrigation by planting indigenous plants and used collected rain water for flushing toilets and landscaping. Examples of Lenovo's water conservation
efforts include a water reuse project implemented at our research and development center in Beijing, which is saving approximately 352,000 liters of water per year, and the installation of sink hardware and toilet flush valves controlling
the amount of water used in all rest rooms at our site in Morrisville, which is saving approximately $8,000 per a year.
In 2017 Lenovo responded for the first time to the CDP Water questionnaire (CDP is a voluntary public reporting system). Lenovo was rated as Management Level with a score of B.

Product Water Footprint
Lenovo recognizes the importance of water use in our own operations and our supply chain. In addition to the metrics we collect on water used in Lenovo’s operations described above, we are also looking at the water impact of our products as part
